Christian Education

Christian education seeks to teach children and adults about the world God created, how our faith is woven into each area of learning, and how to find purpose and meaning through God’s Will for our life.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sunday School is a place and time where God’s children learn they are loved by God and the people of God through the warm fellowship, and inviting and creative study of the Bible.

Sunday School is the place where we teach Bible stories to student in such memorable and positive ways that they become life-long lessons unfolding their meaning as the student grows, -drawing them closer to God and the people of God.

Sunday School is a creative, inviting course of basic training for young Christians –learning about God’s love, God’s plan, and God’s expectations of his people.

Confirmation

Confirmation prepares individuals that are ready to make public affirmation of their Baptism, beliefs, and role in the life of the church.

Confirmation ensures that the student learns and understands key elements of the Christian faith including the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion, and the role that God, and Jesus play in their lives and in the lives of Christian communities of faith. In addition students study Luther’s Small Catechism which provides a deep understanding of The Ten Commandments, The Apostle’s Creed, The Lord’s Prayer, and the Sacraments of Holy Baptism, & Holy Communion.

Generally, confirmation begins when the young person enters seventh grade.

On Pentecost Sunday, the students receive the Rite of Confirmation. At this time, they take on the responsibility of fulfilling the promises made by their parents and godparents at their baptism.

It is our hope and prayer that after their confirmation students will continue to give of their time and talents to our church. They are the future of the church.

Youth ministry

Teaching young people how to grow in their relationship with Christ and thrive in their daily walk will help them to mature and become adults who are confident in their faith.

A successful youth ministry helps kids navigate the teenage years and grow into well–rounded adults.

Christian Life

Faith formation is important for Christians of all ages, including adults. It shapes how we interact with God–and with our families, our communities, our workplaces, and the world. In addition, continued adult study models for the children and youth of the church that one’s faith journey is never complete! Adults at Zion are encouraged to find regular opportunities to learn more, grow more, and reach deep.
